ODISSI JOURNEY - Booklet and Film
As a part of the 'Odissi Journey' programme, Kala The Arts has produced an ‘Odissi Journey’ booklet and also an 'Odissi Journey' film.
"There was very few- hardly any professional dancers in Hampshire in 1995, so I was very delighted not only that someone would make the move to Hampshire but an Indian dancer from an Odissi background of which there was none. So it was great to have Sushmita there. We had to explain what Odissi was. An introduction was given to the audience sometimes but that was welcomed since it gave a way into Sushmita’s performing practice". Eckhard Thiemann
"The workshops done by Sushmita encouraged students that reached a particular standard so that they will be able to enjoy the benefits of such expert teaching." Dr Nandakumar - CEO of Bhavan
These are interesting, informative and enjoyable guides to Odissi Dance, particularly in the UK. They start with the Pioneers of the Odissi form, Sangeevini Dutta and Priya Pawar, and also Kala The Arts who have promoted it in South East England. They feature interviews with selected individuals: Dr Ann David, the Head of Dance at Roehampton; Dr Nandakumar Chief Executive of Bhavan; Eckhard Thiemann; and Kala The Arts Artistic Director Sushmita Pati.
These would be of interest to dancers, audiences, students of dance, researchers, promoters, participants, to anyone interested in the beautiful dance of Odissi. To get a copy just contact Kala The Arts. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
