Astaran
Astaran was a multi-faceted, innovative arts production that used a mixture of multi-media arts, South Asian dance and live music.
The music was specifically composed by Liran Donin, a western Jazz artist and is performed by Natyasastric Ensemble with Liran Donin on Double Bass/Piano, Vamshi Krishna producing hypnotic melodies and hymns and international Tabla player Hiren Chate. The resulting sound for Astaran was multilayered, innovative and modern.
Artistic Director and Choreographer Sushmita Pati and two of our dancers, Rachel Perrett and Srinwanti Chakrabarti explored narratives through energised movements discovering the various layers. In Astaran, the dancers emphasise the contrast between the high impact, improvised dialogues of the musicians and meditative stillness. The performance was enhanced with visual projections by Ashok Patel, an international sculpture and visual artist.
“A performance that combines the use of several artistic techniques to deliver a beautiful and inspiring performance”
