Broad Street Mall celebrates Diwali!
On Saturday 4th November, Broad Street Mall welcomed over 400 visitors to celebrate the Hindu Festival of Lights, Diwali.
In partnership with the region’s professional South Asian dance and music organisation, Kala The Arts, the event was a beautiful array of colour and celebration, filled with traditional, classical and contemporary Indian performances and workshops.
Workshops included learning traditional dance as well as making Rangoli art - stunning colourful creations. Visitors could also have intricate henna hand decorations to make the memories of the day last even longer. This year’s Diwali event at Broad Street Mall was just one of many FREE events that the centre runs in a bid to bring the community together, and this one has certainly left a special mark on those that got involved on the day.
Artistic Director at Kala The Arts says ‘This was such a vibrant and fantastic event at Broad Street Mall. It was so special to bring our South Asian culture into the centre for the day and celebrate such an important cultural festival with the local community. We hope everyone who came along enjoyed seeing and taking part in the traditions.”
Centre Manager, Broad Street Mall says ‘It was amazing to bring this key cultural event to our local community, and have the opportunity for people to take part themselves. We hope lots of special memories were made, and that all our visitors enjoyed being a part of it as much as we did!”
