BOLLYWOOD BRASS BAND & KALA THE ARTS
Fri 25 June , 5pm – meet at Cross Street 6pm – performances at Amphitheatre, Festival Place
Bollywood meets Brass meets Bhangra: The Bollywood Brass Band is the UK’s pioneering Indian-style wedding band, playing the great tunes and compulsively danceable rhythms of the most popular music in the world. Wielding saxophones, tabla, dhol drums and a colossal sousaphone, the BBB are one of the most colourful, joyful and exhilarating acts around.
Kala The Arts will be joining them with both professional dance artists and young people led by Kala The Arts. Watch us from Cross Street and throughout town from a distance* and join the band at the Amphitheatre next to Festival Place where socially distant seating is provided to enjoy more world music and dance kicking off the Basingstoke Festival with a bang. At the Amphitheatre audiences can enjoy Sounds of the Earth, a newly created innovative piece of dance by four artists in the styles of Kathak and Odissi, performed to an original musical score by Pablo Sonnaillon. Following this a fusion, celebratory and creative dance composition in Bollywood, Kathak and Odissi styles will take place by local Kala youth dancers.
Artistic Director, Sushmita Pati will lead a participatory short covid-safe workshop for anyone willing to try the moves before finishing off with a short solo rendition to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride month and further performances from Bollywood Brass Band. This event is supported by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
