Sounds of the Earth is a newly created innovative work produced by Sushmita during Covid-19 for both a virtual and live audiences, devised as a partnership project with Reading Borough Council, Reading University, and two Reading Museums.
The piece starts with no life in earth to a cell in water and growth driven by a bright light. The sound of the space by the background score from the composer. The earth as Gaia Greek goddess getting her energy from the various elements fire and air (Oxygen). Dancers rebalancing life on earth with various movements and the scores bringing in singing melodies in various raags by the singer. The Ragas are very carefully selected to represent the sound of the earth.
The two photos above are from live performance at the Reading Abbey Ruins as part of the Deepam, Festival of Lights in November 2020 and performance as part of the Basingstoke festival in June 2021.
Dancers featured in this video and the first photo are Kali Chandrasegaram, Senjuti Das, Shyam Dattani and Sushmita Pati and musicians Hiren Chate (table), Avtar Singh and singer Kaviraj Dhadyalla. The dancers in the second photo are (R-L) Showmi Das, Sushmita Pati and Raheem Mir.
This work would be ideal for programming as part of an outdoor festival or Mela and would equally suit indoor space.
