About Nadanam
Nadanam, the second dance production by Lasya Dance is choreographed by Sushmita Pati, South Asian dance artist and Artistic Director of Kala The Arts and Cathy Seago Artistic Director of Evolving Motion Contemporary Dance company.
Nadanam is performed by four dancers from Lasya Dance and with musicians playing live on percussion instruments and strong vocals. An original musical score that includes cascading sound effects and dance syllables, spoken words with live music interaction will form the backdrop for part of the performance work. In Nadanam, the dancers play on the five elements of earth, water, air, fire and ether using powerful and vivid movements to show how they dissolve from one to another. The narration draws on how the elements connect to spirituality and their deeper meanings and are beautifully woven to create powerful movement, lyrics and dance. The choreography is based on the rich vocabulary of Odissi and extends the skills of the performers by introducing contemporary acrobatic movements of the Gotipua aspect of Odissi within a modern context.
This beautiful production features Senjuti Das, Rachel Perrett, Showmi Das and Katrina Rute and with two live musicians: international tabla maestro Manjeet Singh Rasiya, cellist Reinoud Ford with versatile and renowned singer Deepa Nair.
Kala The Arts is an associate artist of Anvil Arts.
