VISUAL ART PROGRAMMES
Although primarily known as a dance and music organisation, Kala The Arts also works with Visual artists, both with professional visual artists on large scale projects, and also on community projects.
MAPPING Basingstoke
We created a 3 Metre Sq Map of Basingstoke with children and their families. Inspired by the environment, mapping of their homes, schools, community centers, parks, play grounds and prominent Arts and cultural buildings. Participants left their individual creative marks on the map, including I ❤️ Love Basingstoke! using techniques of drawing, coloring in and printing, over few days of workshops.
The ideas were explored with Artistic Director and Bhajan Hunjan contemporary Visual artist in May 2023 and then we started planning this vast Rangoli mapping Basingstoke. Participants also included Mayor and Mayoress of Basingstoke, participants from Oakridge Hall for All, colleagues from Willis Museum, Events team and Kala the Arts participants!
In total 111 community participants contributed to this canvas.
