Meghdoot incorporated elements of Kalaripayattu, an ancient martial art form from Kerala in Southern India and the forefather of modern Kung Fu. The piece explored the intensity of human emotions through a mixture of Kalaripayattu and related dance forms. This piece toured in the South East with funding provided by Arts Council England.
Sushmita Pati choreograped and curated the piece with assistance from performer Srinwanti Chakrabarti and the music was composed by Liran Doran, a resident London composer originally from Israel. His partnership brought expertise in modern instruments and recorded sound. Fusing recorded music with live musicians Liran created a hypnotic blend of rhythms and melodies, juxtaposing traditional Ragas with contemporary sounds.
The music creates a multi-layered rhythmic effect and melodies that are both innovative and inspiring.
